SEED IN GSC EAST, READIES FOR CONFERENCE

FLORENCE – The University of
North Alabama men’s basketball team shot
over 50 percent from the floor Saturday
evening to post an 89-73 win over
Alabama-Huntsville in the regular season
finale at Flowers Hall.
Esmir Guzonjic had 21 points to lead four
UNA players in double figures. The
senior from Sarajevo, Bosnia, also pulled
down 11 rebounds and had four blocks as the
Lions earned the East Division No. 3 seed in
the upcoming Gulf South Conference
tournament.
UNA will play the West Division’s
second-seeded Christian Brothers Friday at
7:30 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center in
Southaven, Mississippi.
Against the Chargers, Milton Nance added 20
points while Joemal Campbell tossed in 16 on
the night. Quinn Beckwith rounded out the
top scorers for the Lions with 10 points.
A free throw by the Chargers’ Micah de la
Rosa gave UAH its only lead of the night at
21-20 with 9:57 remaining in the first half.
The Lions quickly responded with a 14-2 run
over the next five minutes and never
relinquished the lead.
UNA led 44-31 at the half after Campbell hit
a three-pointer from near half-court. The
Chargers were able to get no closer than
eight points the rest of the way, keeping
the lead in double digits throughout the
second half.
