UNA
CLOSES SEASON WITH 15-14 RECORD
SOUTHAVEN, Miss.,
– Montevallo raced out to an early lead and
never looked back, handing the University of
North Alabama men’s basketball team a 98-71
defeat in the semi-finals of the Gulf South
Conference tournament Saturday night at
Southaven’s DeSoto Civic Center.
The Falcons,
who shot 60 percent from the floor, jumped
out to a 33-13 lead and never allowed the
Lions get within single digits. UM led 52-33
at the half.
Five players
reached double figures for the top-seeded
UM, which advances to face Henderson State
in Sunday’s GSC championship game. The Lions
were led by Quinn Beckwith’s 19 points. The
junior from Tuscumbia also pulled down a
team-high 12 rebounds on the night.
Milton Nance
added 15 points for UNA, while Esmir
Guzonjic tossed in 10 on the night. With his
15, Nance became just the second player in
UNA history to score more than 600 points in
a single season. He also passed the
1,000-mark for his career the previous night
and finished with 1,020 points in two
seasons.
With the loss,
UNA wraps us the 2006-07 season with a 15-14
record.
