SEARCY, Ark. — Isaac Gay’s three-pointer as time expired
was just off the mark allowing Haring to come away with an 88-85
home victory over North Alabama Tuesday evening at Rhodes Field
House on the HU campus.
The three-point
defeat ends the Lions’ seven-game winning streak and gives the team
a 7-3 mark on the season. Harding improves to 4-4 on the year.
UNA had battled
back from a nine-point half-time deficit (44-35) to take a brief
lead in the second half. A jumper by Casey Holt at the 13:11 mark
capped a 20-9 run and gave the Lions a 55-53 lead.
The Bisons were
able to regain the lead and go ahead by seven at 80-73 in the final
five minutes of play before the Lions used one final surge. Led by a
pair of three-pointers by Kenny Johnson and a three-point play by
Gay, UNA was able to tie the game at 84-84 with 1:23 remaining.
Harding got a
layup by Jesse Bynum and two free throws by Matt Hall while the
Lions were unable to connect on another field goal down the stretch.
Five players
reached double digits in scoring for UNA, including Johnson’s
team-best 21 points. Thomas Fraise added 18 points for the Lions
while Holt recorded 17 and Gay tossed in 15 on the night. Andrew
Chesney rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 12 points. Hall led
all scorers on the night with 28 points for the Bisons.
The Lions will
return home Saturday afternoon for a match-up against Gulf South
Conference West Division foe Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is set for 3
p.m. at Flowers Hall.
