HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky., – A North Alabama rally came up
just short Saturday afternoon at Northern Kentucky held on for a
76-73 win over the Lions to extend its winning streak to seven
straight games.
After leading
25-21 at the break, UNA trailed by as many as seven in the second
half, including a 66-59 deficit with 2:53 remaining. The Lions
closed the gap to 75-73 with 12 seconds remaining on a three-point
play by Casey Holt. After the Norse (8-1) hit one free throw, UNA
had one last chance to tie, but a missed three-pointer at the buzzer
secured the NKU win.
Thomas Fraise
led four UNA players in double figures with 18 points on the day.
Kenny Johnson
added 16 points and six assists, while Holt tossed in 15 and Isaac
Gay, 11 for the Lions.
The loss drops
UNA’s record to 9-5 on the year with all five defeats coming at the
hands of teams with winning records. The Lions will attempt to
avenge one of the losses on Jan. 3, when Harding visits Flowers
Hall. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. following the women’s game between
the same two schools.
