FLORENCE – North Alabama used
strong runs at the end of the first half and the opening minutes of
the second half to surge to a 99-84 win over Harding Thursday
evening at Flowers Hall. Quinn Beckwith led all scorers with 23
points and four other UNA players reached double digits in scoring
as the Lions improved to 10-5 on the year, avenging a three-point
road loss to the Bisons one month earlier.
The Lions led
27-26 with 4:38 to play before closing the first half on a 13-3 run.
Casey Holt scored 11 points in the first three minutes of the second
half to help stretch a 43-30 half-time lead to 65-39.
UNA withstood a
late Harding rally to secure the win. The Bisons closed the gap to
11 with less than five minutes remaining, but would get no closer.
Holt finished the game with 21 points, while Kenny Johnson tossed in
15 points and eight assists. Andrew Chesney added 13 points on the
night, and Isaac Gay rounded out the Lions’ top scorers with 10
points.
The Lions will
attempt to avenge another loss with their next outing. One month
after dropping a 100-90 home decision to Arkansas Tech, UNA will get
a rematch on the Wonderboys’ home floor on Jan. 5 in Russellville,
Ark.
