RUSSELLVILLE, Ark., – For the
second straight game, the University of North Alabama men’s
basketball team avenged an earlier-season loss, this time, downing
Arkansas Tech 94-74 on the Wonerboys’ home floor Saturday evening.
Seven UNA players scored between 11 and 14 points as the Lions
improved to 11-5 on the year, ending ATU’s seven-game home winning
streak in the process.
In the first
meeting on Dec. 8, Tech left Flowers Hall with a 100-90 victory.
This time, the
Lions opened the game with a 10-0 run and never trailed. UNA led by
as many as 19 in the opening 20 minutes and took a 40-33 lead into
the break.
A three-pointer
by Thomas Fraise in the opening minute of the second half quickly
stretched the lead back to double digits and the Wonderboys would
get no closer than eight the rest of the way. ATU closed the gap to
74-66 with 5:45 remaining, but a 14-0 run by the Lions put the game
out of reach.
Isaac Gay,
Kenny Johnson and Quinn Beckwith scored 14 points each to lead UNA.
Fraise added 13
for the Lions while Andrew Chesney and Casey Holt scored 12 each.
Thomas Morris completed the balanced attack with 11 points on the
night.
North Alabama
will return home Jan. 7 to face Carver before opening Gulf South
Conference play the following weekend. Tip-off Monday evening is set
for 7 p.m.at Flowers Hall.
