FLORENCE -- Cody Jones scored 23 points in the second
half to help lead Alabama-Huntsville to an 86-82 Gulf South
Conference victory over North Alabama at Flowers Hall.
The Chargers held
a seven-point (41-34) lead at the half and never trailed in the
second half despite numerous runs by the Lions. UAH made 13 of 14
second half free throw attempts to help seal the win and shot 54
percent from the floor for the game (17-of-31).
The loss drops UNA
to 15-7 overall and 3-2 in the Gulf South Conference, while UAH
improved to 10-9 and 4-1.
Casey Holt led UNA
with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Kenny Johnson and Quinn Beckwith
added 16 points each and Thomas Fraise had 13.
For UAH, Jones was
just 4-of-10 in the first half but hit nine of 13 shots in the
second half to finish with 31. Kael Coleman added 28 and Tyler
Dunaway had 13.
UNA held a 35-30
rebounding advantage in a game that saw just 13 turnovers - six by
UAH and seven by UNA.
Holt hit 12 of his
15 shots from the floor for the Lions but was just 2-of-7 from the
free throw line. UNA finished 11-of-19 from the charity stripe.
