LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla  –  The University of North Alabama men's basketball team got its first win of the season Sunday, defeating Philadelphia University  90-62, in the 2007 Disney’s Division II Men’s Tip Off Classic at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

Quinn Beckwith scored 16 of his 27 points in the second half to lead four North Alabama (1-2) players in double figures.  Beckwith, who was named to the All-Tournament Team for Group Teamwork, shot 8-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-13 from beyond the three-point arc. Thomas Fraise came off the bench to contribute 16 points (11 in the first half), shooting 6-of-8 from the field.  Kenny Johnson (5-6 FG) and Issac Gay (4-9 FG) added 11 points a piece in the Lions victory.

Jason Hickenbottom led the Rams (0-3) with 22 points shooting 7-of-15 from the floor.  Mike Dunn added 17 points and Malcom Ingram recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The first half was one dictated by scoring streaks by each school.  Philadelphia University took the early lead, 14-6, at the 13:23 mark, but the Lions scored 10 straight points to take a two-point lead.  The Rams followed with a 9-0 run of their own to lead a 23-16 lead five minutes later.  North Alabama stood fast and scored nine unanswered points to take a two-point lead (25-23) with 4:51 left in the half and held on to a 34-31 lead going into halftime.  The second half was a different story as the Lions scored 20 of the first 28 points, led by Issac Gay’s eight points, to take a commanding 15- point lead (54-39).  That was the game, as Philadelphia couldn’t get within 12 points the rest of the way as North Alabama cruised to a 28-point win.
