FLORENCE – The North Alabama men’s basketball team got
its highest offensive production in 14 seasons, in a 122-89 win over
Blue Mountain College Tuesday evening at home.
In a sloppy
game that featured a combined 211 points, 54 personal fouls, 40
turnovers and 68 free throw attempts, the Lions improved to 4-2 on
the year with a 3-0 mark at Flowers Hall. Casey Holt led four UNA
players in double digits with 30 points on the night.
The senior from
Culleoka, Tenn., hit 11-of-15 shots from the floor and added 12
rebounds and five assists for the Lions. Kenny Johnson tossed in 23
points and eight assists, while Andrew Chesney had 14 and Thomas
Fraise, 12 for UNA.
The Lions raced
out to a 27-5 lead before Blue Mountain rallied to keep the game
interesting. UNA led 57-44 at intermission, but the Toppers closed
the gap to single digits early in the second half. A three-pointer
by Tyler Markham made the score 65-58 with 17:07 remaining, but BMC
would get no closer.
The 122 points
was the Lions’ highest offensive output since a 122-92 win over
Baptist Christian in the 1992-93 season. The total was also just
five points shy team record for most points scored in a game, set in
1991 against DeVry.
The Lions will
host GSC West Division foe Southern Arkansas Saturday at 6 p.m.
Tip-off time at
Flowers Hall was changed due to the football team’s home playoff
game kicking off at noon.
