HOLT NETS 19 POINTS IN 78-72 VICTORY
FLORENCE – Casey Holt scored 19
points to lead four North Alabama players in double digits as the
Lions grabbed a 78-72 victory over Southern Arkansas Saturday
evening at Flowers Hall. The win was the fifth straight for UNA,
which improves to 5-2 on the year. SAU (2-1) suffers its first loss
of the season.
The Lions led
34-33 at the half thanks to a jumper by Thomas Morris as time
expired. In the second half, UNA led by as many as eight in the
second half, but the Muleriders responded with a 16-7 run to take a
61-60 lead with just over eight minutes to play.
A three-pointer
by Phil Collins let the Lions regain the lead and the home team
never trailed again.
Andrew Chesney
added 14 points for UNA, including a six-of-seven showing at the
free throw line. The junior from Birmingham, who also added nine
rebounds, hit four free throws in the final 14 seconds to ice the
game.
Thomas Fraise
added 12 points for the Lions while Morris tossed in 10 to round out
the top scorers.
UNA will host
Delta State on Dec. 1 in a men’s and women’s double-header. Tip-off
for the men’s game is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
