HOLT NETS 19 POINTS IN 78-72 VICTORY

FLORENCE – Casey Holt scored 19 points to lead four North Alabama players in double digits as the Lions grabbed a 78-72 victory over Southern Arkansas Saturday evening at Flowers Hall. The win was the fifth straight for UNA, which improves to 5-2 on the year. SAU (2-1) suffers its first loss of the season.

The Lions led 34-33 at the half thanks to a jumper by Thomas Morris as time expired. In the second half, UNA led by as many as eight in the second half, but the Muleriders responded with a 16-7 run to take a 61-60 lead with just over eight minutes to play.

A three-pointer by Phil Collins let the Lions regain the lead and the home team never trailed again.

Andrew Chesney added 14 points for UNA, including a six-of-seven showing at the free throw line. The junior from Birmingham, who also added nine rebounds, hit four free throws in the final 14 seconds to ice the game.

Thomas Fraise added 12 points for the Lions while Morris tossed in 10 to round out the top scorers.

UNA will host Delta State on Dec. 1 in a men’s and women’s double-header. Tip-off for the men’s game is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
