FLORENCE – University of North Alabama men’s head
basketball coach Bobby Champagne has announced the signing of four
new players to the team’s current recruiting class.
The Lions have
added Andrew Chesney, Brett Jackson, Trent McCants and Dusko Stojnic
to the 2007-08 roster. The four will join Thomas Fraise, who signed
earlier in the spring, and will enroll in the fall.
Chesney, a 6-7
forward, played last season for coach Allen Sharpe at Wallace State
Community College in Hanceville. He helped his team to a 28-4 record
and a No. 5 national ranking at the end of the regular season.
The second team
all-conference selection averaged 13 points and five rebounds per
game and shot 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from
three-point range. Chesney prepped at Oak Mountain High School for
coach Gary North. During his senior season earned first team
all-county, second team all-metro (Birmingham), and an All-State
honorable mention. He averaged 13 points for his team that finished
25-6.
Jackson
averaged 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game during
his senior season for coach Greg Martin at Adamsville High School in
Tennessee. During his junior and senior seasons, He was named to the
Class A first team All-State team and was the district’s most
valuable player as a senior after leading the Cardinals to a 20-10
record. He was also recognized during his junior year as a third
team All-West Tennessee player and was named to the second team the
following this season.
McCants, a 6-0
playmaker, averaged 14 points, 10 assists, three rebounds and three
steals as a senior for coach Marshon Harper and the Runnin’ Rebels
of Valley High School. He finished his career with more than 1,000
points and 860 assists making him the all-time career assist leader
at Valley High School. McCants received numerous honors over his
four-year prep career, the most recent being named to the first team
all- area team and team’s most valuable playe
Stojnic, a 6-10
power forward played his sophomore season for coach Orv Salmon at
Des Moines Area Community College. He helped his team to a 31-5
record and an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA national tournament.
The Bosnian native shot 54 percent from the field and averaged three
points one block and three rebounds per game. He was also a member
of the under-19 Yugoslavian B national team, which won a gold medal
at the SGI Global Games in Minneapolis. |
