GUZONJIC, INMON
RECEIVE EAST DIVISION HONOR
BIRMINGHAM – The University of
North Alabama was well represented Wednesday
when the Gulf South Conference released its
men’s and women’s basketball players of the
week. The Lions’ Esmir Guzonjic and Tandra
Inmon were each recognized in the East
Division, giving UNA a clean sweep for the
week.
Guzonjic is the second consecutive UNA
player to garner the GSC accolades, leading
UNA to 1-1 mark in league action last week.
The senior averaged 20.0 points, 9.0
rebounds and 2.5 assists in 35.5 minutes,
while shooting 70.4 percent from the field.
Guzonjic opened the week with a perfect
performance in an 85-78 victory over West
Florida, becoming just the third player in
GSC history to go 13-for-13 from the field
in a game.
He finished with his ninth double-double of
the year, netting a game-high 26 points and
adding 10 rebounds. The Sarajevo, Bosnia
native capped the week with a 14-point,
eight-rebound effort in a 73-65 setback at
Valdosta State.
Overall, three different players have won
the GSC award for the UNA men. Quinn
Beckwith was honored on Dec. 6, while Milton
Nance took home the award last week (Jan.
31).
Inmon wins the conference award for the
first time in her career after a solid week.
She led the Lions to a conference win over
West Florida and has helped the team move
into a tie for third place in the East
Division. Against the Argonauts, she had 25
points and six rebounds, shooting 7-for-13
from the floor. The junior also hit 11 free
throws and added three assists and three
steals en route to a 71-65 win.
In a last-second road loss to first place
Valdosta State, the guard from West Memphis,
Ark. added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The player-of-the-week award is the second
of the season for the UNA women. Amber
Rutherford took home the honors on Jan. 17.
