Arkansas-Monticello
had five players
reach double digits
in scoring during a
78-70 home win over
the University of
North Alabama men’s
basketball team
Saturday evening.
After trailing by
one at the half, the
Lions held a
seven-point lead
with 7:21 remaining
before the Boll
Weevils closed the
game on a 23-8 run.
Both teams now sport
a .500 record with
UNA at 6-6 and UAM
holding a 5-5
record.
Arkansas-Monticello
led 36-35 at the
break and stretched
the lead to six
points early in the
second half. The
Lions, however,
fought back and took
a two-point lead on
a jumper by Daviel
Clements with 9:18
remaining. UNA
extended its lead to
62-57 on a jumper by
Eric Wormley at the
7:21 mark before the
home team made its
run.
From there, the
Lions were only
2-of-7 from the
floor and also
missed three free
throws.
Jared Strode led UNA
with a game-high 25
points. He added
eight rebounds, two
assists and two
blocks on the night.
Clements added 18
points for the Lions
while Rory Miller
tossed in 12 points
on the night.
The Lions will stay
on the road for
another showdown
against a Gulf South
Conference West
Division team on
Monday. UNA will
play Southern
Arkansas with
tip-off set for 7:30
p.m.
