 NO. 5 VALDOSTA STATE DOWNS UNA MEN FOR 12TH STRAIGHT WIN

VALDOSTA, Ga., – Fifth-ranked Valdosta State grabbed momentum in the second half and coasted for its 12th consecutive victory during an 81-70 win over North Alabama Thursday in Gulf South Conference men’s basketball action. Playing in front of the largest crowd in VSU history, the Blazers improved to 20-2 overall and remained in first place in the GSC East Division with a perfect 6-0 league record. With the loss, UNA falls to 10-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The 3,419 fans at the P.E. Complex on the VSU campus watched the Blazers break open a close game with a 30-10 second-half run. North Alabama had trouble over the final 20 minutes of play, failing to match its first-half total.

Jared Strode led the Lions with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Daviel Clements added 19 points on the night, but was limited to only three points in the second half of play.

The Lions will travel to Carrollton, Ga., for another key conference road game on Saturday. UNA will take on West Georgia with tip-off set for 7 p.m. CST.
