- Daviel Clements scored
20 of his game-high 34 points in the
second half as the University of North
Alabama men’s basketball team rallied to
beat Henderson State 95-86 Thursday
evening at Flowers Hall. After trailing
55-49 at the half, the Lions held HSU to
just 31 points over the final 20 minutes
to pick up their first win of the
season.
Clements
was 12-of-18 from the floor and was
9-of-13 from three-point range to tie a
school record. His nine three-pointers
ties Milton Nance’s mark set in 2006
against Arkansas Tech.
The Lions
trailed by six at the break after
Henderson State closed the half on a
24-12 run. The Reddies’ largest lead was
seven after a free throw in the opening
minutes made the score 56-49.
UNA
responded with nine straight points to
take a 58-56 lead at the 13:43 mark.
From there, the Lions took control with
a 21-7 run keyed by Clements’ 14 points.
The junior from Jessup, Ga., had four
three-pointers and a layup during the
spurt as North Alabama took a 79-63 lead
with 6:36 remaining.
Henderson
State made a late run but ran out of
time. A three-pointer by Kyle Oldham
with 19 second remaining made the final
score 95-86.
Jared
Strode added 20 points for the Lions
while Eddie Lima tossed in a career-high
14 points. Marquel Darrington also
recorded six assists on the night.
UNA will host Ouachita
Baptist Saturday at home. Tip-off is set
for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
