-- North Alabama went on a 12-2 run over a five-minute period as the
second half wound down and the Lions held off Valdosta State for a
59-53 upset of the Blazers at Flowers Hall.
Valdosta State entered the game at 12-2
overall and had been nationally ranked for most of the 2004-05
season. The Blazers held a 25-23 lead at halftime and the game
remained close until UNA's Reprobatus Bibbs tied the game at 41-41
with a free throw with 7:42 left in the game. The Lions then went on
their run to take a 53-43 lead with 1:58 remaining in the game.
Pete Lowe helped secure the win for UNA with
numerous free throws down the stretch. Lowe finished the game
12-of-14 from the line. Bibbs led UNA with 17 points and Lowe had
16. A.J. Gordon added 12 for the Lions.
Valdosta State was led by Jon Rogers and Mike
Crain with 12 points each. Rogers added 16 rebounds.
With the win, UNA improved to 9-6 overall and
2-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
