UAH HANDS LIONS THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS (BOX SCORE)

HUNTSVILLE - Hot shooting by the UAH Chargers proved to be too much for the University of North Alabama men’s basketball team Saturday night during a 76-54 loss for the Lions at Spragins Hall.

UAH connected on 24-of-46 shots from the field for a blistering 60 percent on the night. The Chargers hit almost 62 percent of their shots in the first half and went four-of-nine from three-point range to build a 33-21 lead.

A three-point basket by UNA’s Pervis Key in the opening minute of the second half cut the lead to nine at 33-24, but the Lions would never get closer.

Back-to-back free throws by the Chargers’ Jason Smith pushed the UAH lead to 35-24 with just over 18 minutes remaining and the Lions would not trim the lead under double digits again.

Reprobatus Bibbs led UNA with 13 points and three steals on the night. Key also tossed in 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record the double-double. The Chargers were led by Micha delaRosa’s game-high 19-point performance. Jamie Gardner also added 16 points on the night.

The loss is the third straight for the Lions, who are now 10-9 overall with a 3-4 mark in conference play. UAH improves to 9-10, 3-4.

UNA will step outside the Gulf South Conference Monday night for a home game against Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
