NORTH ALABAMA UPSETS FLORIDA GULF COAST (BOX
SCORE)
FLORENCE --
North Alabama watched an 19-point second half lead melt to a single
point but then hit eight straight free throws in the final two
minutes to seal a 90-83 upset win over Florida Gulf Coast at Flowers
Hall. UNA improved to 11-9 with the win, while FGCU dropped to
18-5. The Lions shot 50 percent from the floor in the first
half and hit six three-pointers on the way to a 52-37 halftime lead.
The Lions then extended that lead before Gulf Coast went on a 25-7
scoring barrage and closed the gap to 68-67 with 8:13 left.
UNA then maintained its lead down the stretch, partially due to
16-of-20 free throw shooting in the second half. Javier
Palacios led UNA with 21 points, while A.J. Gordon and Luke Copeland
had 16 each, Jerrell Vinson 13 and Reprobatus Bibbs 11. Bryan
Crislip led and Kevin Martin led Florida Gulf Coast with 20 each. |
