NORTH ALABAMA GETS OVERTIME WIN OVER STILLMAN (BOX
SCORE)
FLORENCE -- North Alabama
outscored Stillman 12-2 in overtime, including hitting eight-of-11
free throws in the extra five minutes, for a 99-89 win over Stillman
at Flowers Hall. The win, UNA's second in two days, gets the
Lions off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2000-01.
Stillman shot 63 percent from the floor in the first half and
managed a 47-44 halftime lead, despite turning the ball over 20
times and committing 20 fouls. UNA fell behind by as many as
seven points early in the second half before three-point shooting by
Pervis Key and the inside play of A.J. Gordon brought the Lions
back. UNA then pushed its lead to as many as seven points before
Stillman tied the game 87-87 on a basket with 19 seconds left in
regulation by Paul Shields. In overtime, UNA scored 11
straight points before Stillman could get on the board. Key
led UNA with 27 points, hitting seven of 12 shots from the floor,
6-o f-8 from three-point range and 7-of-8 free throws. Gordon added
24 points, Reprobatus Bibbs had 15, and Thomas Morris and Jerrell
Vinson 12 each. Stillman was led by Wayne Bender with 36
points. He hit his first 10 field goal attempts and finished
12-of-19 from the floor. Glenn Morse had 18 and Rickey Gibson 11.
There were 57 fouls called in the game, 73 free throws were shot and
there were 63 turnovers.
UNA hosts Southern Indiana Saturday at noon at Flowers Hall.
