FLORENCE
-- University of North Alabama senior cross country runner Emry McKay of Huntsville will make a run at a national championship Saturday when she competes in the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.

McKay earned a spot in the NCAA Championships for the third straight year when she won the Division II South Regional title. She finished 29th at the 2004 NCAA Championships and improved to 17th in 2005.

McKay has also been honored as the NCAA Division II South Regional Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. She became the first regional cross country champion from UNA, clocking a 21:28 on the 6,000 meter course in Memphis to edge Harding's Janee Jones.

A two-time All-American, three-time All-South Region and three-time All-Gulf South Conference honoree, McKay ran at Bob Jones High School and then competed one season at the University of Alabama-Birmingham before transferring to UNA.
During her three-year career at UNA, Emry has won eight races, including this year's regional championship.
