UNA MEN FINISH NINTH AT GSC MEET
HOOVER, Ala.
—The University of North Alabama men's cross
country team finished ninth in a 10-team
field at the 2007 Gulf South Conference
Men's Cross Country Championship, Saturday,
at Veteran's Park.
Alabama-Huntsville snapped Harding's streak
of seven consecutive Titles with a top score
of 40 points. HU finished second behind
(48), while West Florida (98), Christian
Brothers (110) and West Georgia (125)
rounded out the Top Five.
Completing the
10-team field was No. 6 West Alabama (149),
followed by Southern Arkansas (155),
Valdosta State (210), North Alabama (252)
and Arkansas-Monticello (325).
UAH placed four
runners in the top eight. The Top 10
finishers earned All-GSC First Team honors,
led by Harding's James Cheruiyot who won the
GSC Individual Championship for the second
time in three years, posting a time of
25:35. Alabama-Huntsville's Brandon York
placed second (26:26), followed by UWG's Nao
Asano (26:31) and GSC Freshman of the Year
Nathan Miles (26:32). Rounding out the First
Team included HU's Fred Wojciech (5th,
26:42), CBU's Stephen Hill (6th, 26:43), UAH
duo Mark Temple (7th, 27:07) and Will
Rodgers (8th, 27:23), UWA's Austin Enriquez
(9th, 27:26) and Christian Brothers' John
Waldorf (10th, 27:30).
Second Team
All-GSC laurels went to the 11th through
20th place finishers: West Georgia's Roman
Drankin (11th, 27:33); UWF's Brian Gowan
(12th, 27:34); Harding trio Matt Cregger
(13th, 27:48), Will Fairhurst (14th,
27:49) and
Frank Bolling (15th, 27:49); West Florida's
Nicholas Maedel (16th, 27:49); West
Alabama's Jonathan Sellers (17th, 27:51);
SAU's Nathan Blim (18th, 27:52); UAH's Josh
Moshier (19th, 27:56); and Harding's Jordan
Conley (20th 28:04).
Zac Piper
was UNA's top finisher at No. 32 overall
with a time of 28:53.
UNA WOMEN HAVE STRONG FIFTH PLACE FINISH IN
GSC CROSS COUNTRY MEET
HOOVER, Ala.
-- Jessica Moran and Hannah Mook earned
All-Gulf South Conference honors
individually and helped lead the University
of North Alabama women's cross country team
to a strong fifth place finish in the 2007
GSC Championships.
Moran, a junior
from Fayetteville, Tenn., finished 10th
overall with a time of 19:50 to earn
first-team All- GSC honors. She was
second-team All-GSC in 2006. Mook, a
freshman from Decherd, Tenn., was 16th
overall at 20:08 to earned second-team All-GSC
honors.
Harding won the
GSC title, followed by Alabama-Huntsville,
West Florida, Southern Arkansas and UNA.
The Lions
finished ahead of 10 other schools in the
15-team field.
The fifth place
finished equalled the second best finish in
the GSC meet by a UNA women's team in the
last 14 years.
