FLORENCE
-- University of North Alabama cross country
coach Scott Trimble has announced the
signing of six runners to National Letters
of Intent with the Lions.
The UNA men's
cross country team has added six signees,
while the UNA women's team added two
runners.
The UNA men
return just one letterman from last season
and Trimble is looking to a banner groupf of
signees to get UNA back into the thick of
the Gulf South Conference race.
Josh Chessor of
Ripley (Miss.) High School is a two-time
state champion in Class 3A in Mississippi
and fellow signee Dusty Talley of Ripley
finished second to Chessor each of the last
two years. Freshman Wes Bevis of Rogers High
School was selected as the TimesDaily Class
3A-4A runner of the year and freshman
Collins Montgomery of Lawrence County High
School was the Decatur Daily's 4A Runner of
the Year and an all-state performer. The
fifth freshman signee for the UNA men is
Aaron Bush of Shelby County High School who
Trimble says is a "diamond in the rough" for
the Lions.
The lone
transfer for UNA is junior Daniel Dill from
Northwest Shoals Community College. Dill
prepped at Muscle Shoals High School and has
"tremendous potential" according to Trimble.
The UNA women
have added freshmen Carrie Rosser of
Florence's Shoals Christian School and Katie
Gamble of Sweet Home High School in Amherst,
N.Y.
The UNA women
return six runners from 2007 and Trimble
expects Rosser and Gamble to help solidify a
promising Lion lineup.
