downs North Georgia on the road 3-1
DAHLONEGA, Ga.
– The University of North Alabama women’s
soccer team improved to 2-0 Sunday with a
strong 3-1 over North Georgia College and
State University. UNA led 1-0 at the half
and added two second half goals for the win.
Freshman Paige Hess scored the game’s first
goal for North Alabama on a breakaway in the
17th minute. Alison Woodman assisted on the
goal as Hess beat North Georgia goalkeeper
Mary Canon Williams to the far post.
UNA senior
Rhiannon Harrison got the second goal of the
match off a pass from Woodman for a 2-0 lead
in the 68th minute.
North Georgia’s Lauren Cappy took a cross
from Jessica Williams for a goal as UNA
goalkeeper Mally Cash was beaten for the
first time this season. That goal came in
the 6 minute and was the first UNA had
allowed in 159 minutes of play this season.
Two North
Georgia goals were called back, one for an
offside call and the other for a foul in the
box UNA’s Teresa Hea took a corner from
Harrison and headed the ball into the net
for a 3-1 lead in the 78th minute. It was
Harrison’s 23rd career assist, extending her
school record.
UNA is now 2-0
overall, while North Georgia falls to 0-1-1.
