-- The University of North Alabama women's
soccer team netted seven goals against Delta
State Sunday on the way to recording its
first Gulf South Conference victory of the
season.
The Lions, now
6-5 overall and 1-1 in the GSC, built a 5-0
lead before allowing a Delta State goal,
then added two more goals in the closing
minutes. Delta State falls to 3-9 overall
and 1-2 in the GSC.
Sophomore Paige
Hess of Conway, Ark., opened the scoring for
UNA with a goal just 3:23 into the contest
off a corner kick from Tassia Augusto. It
was Augusto's seventh assist of the season.
Augusto scored her 12th goal of the year at
the 21:28 mark off a throw-in from Kelli
Coffman, then Alison Woodman nailed a shot
from 40 yards out that made it 3-0 at
intermission.
At 51:29 of the
second half, Elise Denton got her second
goal of the season, pushing the ball past a
defender and then beating DSU goalkeeper
Allison Richardson. A goal by Allison Post
at 64:25 made it 5-0.
Delta State got
a goal from Cat Sanford off an assist from
Angela Davidson at 65:54 but UNA answered
less than four minutes later when Augusto
scored her 13th goal on a penalty kick.
Sanford scored
again for Delta State at 73:53 but UNA got
another long goal from Hess, her third of
the year, at 77:38.
UNA outshot DSU
24-10.
