MOBILE, Ala.
-- The season couldn't have started
any better for the University of North
Alabama women's soccer team as the Lions
recorded their second straight shutout
Friday in a Division II clash with Eckerd.
UNA downed the
Tritons 5-0 to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Lions have scored 13 goals in two
contests and have not allowed a goal this
season.
"We were able
to score in the first minute of each half
and that was big, but you really have to
praise the play of our back four defenders
for this win," said UNA head coach Graham
Winkworth. "We played well and moved the
ball well and we were able to achieve our
goal - which was another shutout."
Winkworth
praised the play of UNA's defenders, led by
senior Amy Butler of Manchester, England.
The other four key defenders for UNA are
freshmen - Stacey Lewis of Birmingham, Ala.,
Kelli Coffman of Warrensburg, Mo., Sarah
Robbins of Sarasota, Fla., and Dayna Shelden
of Kansas City, Mo.
UNA sophomore
Tassia Augusto scored her third goal of the
season less than a minute into the contest.
UNA built its lead to 3-0 at the half and
cruised to the win. Augusto scored three
goals and Natalie Sherk and Allison Post
added goals. Claire Bennett and Kressa
Gibson had two assists each and Elise Denton
assisted on the other goal.
UNA plays
Spring Hill on Sunday.
