women's soccer coach Graham Winkworth has
announced the signing of Jamie Takala of
Naples, Florida as the Lions 14th signee for
2008-09.
Takala is a
central midfield player who is currently
playing for the Naples Sharks Soccer
team with fellow UNA signee Alex McLay.
“Jamie is a
versatile player who has the ability to make
an immediate impact with this squad,"
Winkworth said. "I was impressed with her
because she is a box to box player who is
capable of pitching in with a few goals and
assists, but is also not scared to put a
tackle in."
Winkworth said
that Takala also has excellent grades at her
high school and has won numerous awards
during her recent high school soccer season.
"I am excited and proud to bring her to UNA
and hope that she will add more depth to a
position on the field where we have
struggled of late," Winkworth added. .
With the 14
signees, WInkworth said "this is by far the
biggest, most talented and deepest
recruiting class I have had the opportunity
to bring to UNA. I look forward to watching
these young ladies grow academically,
athletically and personally during their
careers here”
