FLORENCE
-- It took the 25th ranked
University of North Alabama
women's soccer team more than 68
minutes and 25 shots to find the
goal Tuesday night but the Lions
emerged with a 3-0 win over
Trevecca Nazarene at the UNA
Soccer Field.
UNA, now 9-1-1 overall, outshot
Trevecca 18-0 in the first half
but couldn't put a ball in the
net past the Trojan's Bekah
Headrick. In the second half the
game remained scoreless until
the 68:52 mark when Jamie Takala
settled a ball some 35 yards out
and drilled it into the right
corner of the net. The Lions
then added two goals off free
kicks as Chloe Roberts scored
her 16th goal of the season at
the 81:39 mark abd Julia Osmond
got her second at 82:22. Roberts
ranks as the second leading
scorer nationally in the NCAA
Division II.
UNA finished the night with 33
total shots and 11 shots on
goal.
UNA freshman Courtney Rumage of
Florence recorded a shutout in
goal. She started in place of
Alex McLay, who missed the game
due to illness.
