MOUNT VERNON, Ga.
-- Tassia Augusto scored three goals
and Chloe Roberts added two goals
and three assists as the University
of North Alabama defeated
Brewton-Parker 6-3 on the road for
the Lions' 13th win of the season.
UNA, now 13-1-1, allowed a
season-high three goals on defense
after giving up just nine goals in
its previous 14 matches. But the
offense clicked to the tune of a 5-1
lead at intermission and added a
security goal in the second half
after Brewton-Parker closed the gap
to 5-3.
"It's always nice to get a win,
especially when you didn't play that
well," said UNA head coach Graham
WInkworth. "It was one of our poorer
performances of the year, but the
good thin is that our players
realize that and they are ready to
get back to work and get focused on
our big GSC match at Harding on
Friday."
Chelsea Ross got UNA on the board
early with her third goal of the
year, assisted by Roberts. Augusto
then scored for the 16th time in
2009 off an assist from Ross to make
it 2-0. Augusto's next goal came off
an assist from Roberts, then Roberts
scored on an assist from Ross, UNA's
final goal of the first half was by
Roberts with Hollie Loud assisting.
Augusto scored her third goal of the
night in the second half as Roberts
assisted.
For the season, Roberts has now
scored 23 goals and has six assists.
Her 23 goals total continues to
extend her UNA single-season record.
With her three goals, Augusto now
has 18 goals and five assists in
2009. She now has 53 career goals as
she also extends her school record.
UNA returns to Gulf South Conference
play Friday when the Lions travel to
Harding.
