AUGUSTO AND HESS LEAD LIONS TO SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY

FLORENCE -- Tassia Augusto scored four goals and Paige Hess scored her first goal of the season as the only two senior members of the University of North Alabama women's soccer team lead the Lions to an 8-1 win over Delta State on Senior Night at the UNA Soccer Field.

With the win UNA is now 16-2-1 overall and finished the home portion of its 2009 schedule with a perfect 10-0 record, The Lions are also 7-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State drops to 2-11 and 0-7.

UNA raced to a 5-0 lead in the first half and outscored the Statesmen 3-1 over the final 45 minutes. Freshman sensation Chloe Roberts got the game's first goal in the 11th minute to put UNA on top 1-0. At the 16:25 mark Augusto scored her first goal of the night off an assist from Roberts to make it 2-0. In the 20th minute, UNA was awarded a penalty kick and Hess put the ball in the net past a diving Samantha Le Jeune. It was the first goal by Hess since 2007, as she missed the entire 2008 season due to a knee injury and has had a slow recovery n 2009. It was the ninth career goal for the senior from Conway, Ark., and it gave UNA a 3-0 lead. Augusto scored twice more in the half, first at the 27:08 mark off assists from Stephanie Bradshaw and Roberts, and then at 32:38 on a penalty kick.

Augusto then scored to open the second half off an assist from Roberts to extend the lead to 6-0. Delta State got on the board in the 60th minute on a goal byKristin Stensholt but UNA would add two more. Roberts scored for the 28th time this season at the 67:10 mark to push UNA's advantage to 7-1 and Stephanie Bradshaw closed the scoring with her fourth goal of the year off an assist from Jo Chubb.

Augusto's four goals pushed her season total to 26 and her UNA career total to 61, further extending her school record.

UNA closes its regular season with a match at Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday.
