PENSACOLA, Fla.,
– The North Alabama women’s
soccer team extended its
historic season Friday with a
4-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville
in the semi-finals of the Gulf
South Conference Tournament at
Pensacola’s Brosnaham Park. With
the shutout victory, the Lions
improve to 18-2-1 and pickup
their first post-season win in
the history of the program.
Tassia Augusto scored two
second-half goals to lead UNA,
which advances to Sunday’s Gulf
South Conference championship
match. The Lions will play at 11
a.m. against the winner of
Friday’s West Florida- Christian
Brothers showdown.
North Alabama took a 1-0 lead
into the half after Hollie Loud
connected on a penalty kick at
the 7:17 mark. In the second
half, Augusto took a cross from
Stephanie Bradshaw and scored at
50:02 to put the Lions ahead
2-0.
Chloe Roberts recorded her
team-high 30th goal of the
season at 60:08 with an
unassisted score before
Augusto’s second goal at 68:23
made the final score 4-0. For
the match, North Alabama held a
19-9 advantage in shots.
UNA Goalkeeper Alex McLay
notched her eighth shutout of
the season. The sophomore from
Naples, Fla., had four saves on
the day.
