PENSACOLA, Fla.,
– West Florida got
two first-half goals

and remained
undefeated on the
season with a 4-1
victory over North
Alabama Sunday in
the Gulf South
Conference
championship match
at Pensacola’s
Brosnaham Park.
With the win the
top-ranked Argonauts
improved to 19-0 on
the year and claimed
their second
straight GSC title.
The Lions fall to
18-3-1 with two of
the losses coming
against UWF.
On Sunday, West
Florida scored
quickly to take an
early lead. Gordon
scored an unassisted
goal just over two
minutes into the
game to put the
Argos on top 1-0.
The senior made the
score 2-0 at the
22:47 mark after
taking an assists
from Dernelle
Mascall and hitting
a shot from the
middle of the box.
North Alabama was
able to briefly pull
to within a goal in
the second half.
Stephanie Bradshaw
headed in a corner
kick by Chloe
Roberts at 54:21 to
make the score 2-1.
The Argonauts,
however, needed only
1:50 to respond.
Mascall connected on
a penalty kick at
56:11 to extend the
lead to 3-1.
West Florida’s final
goal came off a
deflection of a UNA
player to make the
final score 4-1.
The Argonauts held
an 18-7 advantage in
shots, including a
12-5 lead in on goal
opportunities. UWF
also had 14 corner
kicks to the Lions’
one on the day. UNA
goalkeeper Alex
McLay made eight
saves.
North Alabama placed
five players on the
all-tournament team.
Bradshaw, Roberts
and McLay were
joined by Tassia
Augusto and Kelli
Coffman.
UNA will now await a
bid to play in next
week’s regional
round of the NCAA
Tournament. The
Lions entered the
GSC Tournament
ranked fourth in the
South Region.
