assisted on a third
to lead the
University of North
Alabama to a 3-2 win
over Florida
Southern in the
opening round of the
NCAA Division II
Women's Soccer South
Regional Tournament.
The win was the frst-ever
NCAA tournament win
for the UNA soccer
program and will
send the Lions into
a second round
matchup with host
and No.1 ranked West
Florida on Sunday at

but fell behind 2-1
by intermission.
After knotting the
score at 2-2 in the
64th minute, the
Lions got the
winning goal from
Roberts with less
than five minutes
left in regulation.
"It was a game of
two very different
halves," said UNA
head coach Graham
Winkworth. "We did
not start out well
but we changed our
system at the half
and did a much
better job of
pressuring them. It
was just a hard
fought game and our
players know they
beat a very goof
Florida Southern
team today."
UNA is now 19-3-1,
while Florida
Southern ends its
season at 12-8-1.
Roberts, a freshman
from Plymouth,
England and the 2009
Gulf South
Conference Player of
the Year, put UNA on
top in the 24th

37:29 mark to put
Florida Southern up
2-1.
UNA tied the game at
63:59 when Jamie
Takala took a feed
from Roberts and
pushed it past the
FSC goalkeeper. It
was Takala's seventh
goal of the season
and the 15th assist
for Roberts.
Then, in the 86th
minute, Roberts
scored again
unassisted to give
UNA the 3-2 win.
Florida Southern
out-shot UNA 8-2 in
the first half and
the Lions returned
the favor with an
eight shots to two
advantage in the
second half.
UNA goalkeeper Alex
McLay had two saves
in the win.
North Alabama will
now face West
Florida for the
third time this
season. The Lions
lost a
regular-season
matchup with the
Lady Argonauts 4-0
in Pensacola, then
dropped a 4-1
decision in the
championship game of
the GSC Tournament
to UWF last weekend.
