Roberts had three and Nikki Brown added five
assists as the University of North Alabama
women’s soccer team dominated Limestone
College 8-0 Sunday afternoon at the UNA
Soccer Field.
With the win
UNA not only improves to 2-0 on the season
but also recorded its second straight
shutout. Freshman Julia Osmond keyed UNA’s
defensive effort as UNA allowed just three
total shots and none in the second half. UNA
goalkeeper Alex McLay had two saves and
combined with Courtney Rumage for the save.
McLay was in-goal for the first 74:30 before
Rumage came on to play the final 15:30.
Augusto
scored her first goal just 7:50 into the
match off an assist from Brown. Exactly four
minutes later the same combination extended
UNA’s lead to 2-0. At 12:38 Jo Chubb scored
her first goal of the season on an assist
from Brown. The final goal of the first half
came from Roberts at 14:14 off Brown’s
fourth assist.
The game
remained 4-0 until the 69:10 mark of the
second half when Roberts netted her second
goal off an assist from Chubb. Brown
assisted Augusto again with 16 minutes left
in the match as UNA made it 6-0 and then
Augusto rebounded a shot by Roberts and put
it in the goal at 76:52. Roberts scored the
final goal of the day with just under two
minutes to play off an assist from Beth
Spurr.
Brown’s five
assists set a school record, breaking the
mark of four by Catherine Schillig backl in
1999 against Ouachita Baptist.
Augusto, who
entered the 2009 season as UNA’s all-time
leading scorer with 35, has now pushed her
total to 41 with six goals already in the
first two matches of 2009.
UNA outshot
Limestone 27-3 with Roberts leading the way
with 11 shots.
UNA plays at
Georgia Southwestern Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The Lions host Limestone College on
Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
