CLAYTON, Ga.
-- Down 2-1 midway through the first
half, the University of North
Alabama women's soccer team got back
on track and scored seven unanswered
goals enroute to an 8-2 rout of
Clayton State.
The win was a key one for the 18th
ranked Lions, coming off their first
loss of the season Friday at
Newberry. North Alabama is now 6-1
overall.
"In the second half we really
relaxed and played our game and that
was good to see," said UNA head
coach Graham Winkworth. "We were
down 2-1 and pressing and not
playing the way we had been, but we
got two key goals to go ahead at the
half I think that put us back on
track."
UNA struck first as Jo Chubb scored
just 1:22 into the match off an
assist from Tassia Augusto. Clayton
State answered with two goals
however in a seven minute period to
go up 2-1 at the 9:57 mark, The
Lions got a penalty kick from Hollie
Loud to tie the game at 34:07, and
Loud then gave UNA the lead with
another goal at 37:54 off an assist
from Nikki Brown. It was Brown's
eighth assist of the season and the
UNA single season record is 10.
The second half was all UNA as
Augusto scored two goals, Chloe
Roberts scored two goals and Adriene
Aragon added one. Jamie Takala
assisted on two second half goals
and Chubb and Loud added one assist
each. For the season, Roberts now
leads UNA with 11 goals and Augusto
has nine.
UNA goalkeeper Alex McLay had five
saves for the Lions.
