-- Tassia Augusto scored four goals and
Chloe Roberts had two as the University
of North Alabama women's soccer team
downed Ouachita Baptist 8-1 in the Gulf
South Conference opener for both schools
at the UNA Soccer Field.
UNA got a goal in the sixth minute from
Roberts and added two more before
intermission for a 3-0 lead. The Lions
extended the lead to 7-0 before OBU
scored in the 82nd minute. North Alabama
answered that score just 17 seconds
later to make the final count 8-1.
With the win, North Alabama is now 7-1-1
overall and 1-0 in the GSC. Ouachita
Baptist falls to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in
the GSC.
Roberts first goal came at 5:57 of the
first half and was off an assist from
freshman Nikki Brown. The assist was
Brown's 10th of the season and ties the
UNA single-season record. Augusto's
first goal came at 19:02 off an assist
from Julia Osmond. Roberts got a
breakaway in the 33rd minute to make it
3-0. It was her 14th goal of the season.
In the second half, Augusto started the
scoring at 53:14 with a sliding goal off
assists from Roberts and Adriene Aragon.
Augusto then scored unassisted at the
60:05 mark and netted her fourth goal
less than a minute later off an assist
from Hollie Loud. Augusto's fourth goal
tied her with Roberts for the UNA team
lead with 14 this season.
Aragon scored her third goal of the
season at the 63 minute mark off an
assist from Stephanie Bradshaw.
Miranda Lytle scored OBU's lone goal at
the 81:42 mark. It was the first goal
that UNA has allowed at home this season
in five matches. UNA's Jamie Takala put
the ball in the net at the other end of
the field just 17 seconds later to make
the final score 8-1.
