Augusto has been named to the 2009 ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-America® Women’s
Soccer Teams, as selected by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A Health, Physical Education and Recreation
major, Augusto has a cumulative 3.67 grade
point average and was named first-team
Academic All-America.
Augusto becomes the 11th UNA student-athlete
to earn Academic All-America honors. Her
selection marks just the sixth time that a
Lion has been named first-team Academic
All-America.
The leading scorer in North Alabama history
with 64 goals and 20 assists, Augusto scored
29 goals with six assists in 2009 while
leading the Lions to the best season in
school history. UNA finished the year with a
19-4-1 record and earned its first-ever NCAA
Division II Tournament appearance. A native
of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Augusto was a two-time
Gulf South Conference Player of the Week
this season. She also earned All-GSC
Tournament honors, as well second-team
All-South Region acclaim.
The 12 members of the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer College
Division first team have a cumulative G.P.A.
of 3.91.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a
varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a
cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a
scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore
athletic and academic standings at his/her
current institution and be nominated by
his/her sports information director. Since
the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has
bestowed Academic All-America honors on more
than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I,
II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA
championship sports.
