SAN ANGELO, Texas
-- A pair of University of North Alabama
freshmen became the first All-American
selections in the program's 12-year history
Wednesday when they were named to the
Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer
All-America Teams.
UNA forward Chloe Roberts of Plymouth,
England and midfielder Nikki Brown of Bognor
Regis, England, were named second-team
All-Americans by Daktronics. The duo helped
lead UNA to a stellar 19-4-1 record that
included the school's first NCAA Tournament
appearance.
Roberts, a first-team All-Gulf South
Conference and All-South Region pick, set a
UNA record and ranks among the Division II
national leaders with 32 goals scored in
2009. She also added 15 assists. Brown, also
an All- GSC and all-region pick, led the
team with 16 assists and ranked among the
Division II leaders. She also scored two
goals for the Lions.
Sports information directors from NCAA D-II
schools and conferences selected the three
Daktronics All-America teams. The process
begins at the regional level with all first
team all-region picks advancing to the
national ballot. This is the fourth year
Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA D-II
Women’s Soccer All-America and all-region
teams. A total of 39 student-athletes
representing 23 different institutions
filled out the three teams.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc.,
