BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
-- A pair of University of North Alabama
players have swept this week's Gulf South
Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week
awards after helping lead the Lions to three
shutout wins in the past seven days.
Freshman Chloe Roberts of Plymouth, England
was selected GSC Player of the Week. Roberts
has made a an immediate impact at UNA and
has nine goals in five matches with six
coming in three contests this past week.
Roberts scored four times against Georgia
Southwestern earlier in the week before
netting both goals in a victory against
then-No. 22 Lynn (Fla.) Friday.
Sophomore Alex McLay of Naples, Fla., has
been named GSC Defender of the Week.
McLay posted three shutouts and had 10 saves
in UNA's three wins. She had her best match
when it counted the most, stopping six shots
against then-No. 22 Lynn (Fla.) as the Lions
won, 2-0. The returning first-team All- GSC
net minder has led the Lions to their
first-ever National Ranking after recording
five shutouts in the first five matches of
the season. The Lions are 5-0 and ranked No.
18 nationally.
