The University of North Alabama softball
team will enter the 2005 season with its highest-ever preseason
ranking in the Gulf South Conference. The Lions have been picked

2005 University of
North Alabama Softball Season Preview
For the first time since taking over
head coaching duties at the University of North Alabama in July of
2001, Jeremy Reece will start a season with a roster full of his
own recruits. Reece, who begins his fourth season as head
softball coach, will enter the 2005 campaign with a goal of
reaching the postseason for the first time.
The Lions are coming off a 19-33
season and will mix experienced returnees with talented newcomers.
“This will be the first year since I have been here that everyone
on the roster is one of my own recruits,” said Reece. “We have a
young team with only two seniors and two juniors, but we also have
a lot of talent. If the right players step up and fill key
leadership roles, we will have the chance to compete for the Gulf
South Conference East Division title and advance to the conference
tournament.”
Reece feels that a postseason run
is within reach with the top statistical players on offense and
defense returning. Jessica Liddy will be back after leading the
team in batting average last season as a true freshman. The 5-4
sophomore catcher batted .331 a year ago with three home runs, two
triples and 10 doubles. She also added a .483 slugging percentage
and a team-high .424 on-base percentage. Liddy was named first
team All-GSC at the end of the season.....More

NORTH ALABAMA SOFTBALL PREVIEW
With five returning players and a wealth of talented newcomers, the
University of North Alabama softball team hopes to be a contender in the
2004 Gulf South Conference race. The Lions, set to begin their third
season under head coach Jeremy Reece, went 24-35 last season but were in
the thick of the GSC race for much of the season. Reece feels the
2004 Lions could have the talent and depth to contend in the GSC East
Division.
"This could really be a
year where we can make some things happen," said Reece.
"We have some returning players who have been here a couple of years
and know what to expect and where we want to go, then we have a good
recruiting class of junior college players and freshmen that have a lot of
talent.
