SOFTBALL LIONS PLACE FOUR ON ALL-GSC LIST
BATES, GREENE EARNED FIRST-TEAM HONORS, GLIENKE,
LIDDY ON SECOND TEAM
FLORENCE –
The University of North Alabama softball team
placed four players on the 2007 All-Gulf South
Conference team. Outfielders Lindsey Greene and
Lindsey Bates each got a first-team nod, while
seniors Stephanie Glienke and Jessica Liddy
earned second-team honors.
The all-conference
selection for Greene is the third of her career.
The junior from Decatur was a second-team
selection the last two seasons, earning GSC East
Freshman-of-the-Year honors in 2005. This
season, she led the team with a .393 batting
average. She started all 53 games for the Lions,
getting a team-high 70 hits and 45 runs scored,
and adding 10 doubles, two triples and 26 RBI.
Bates, a
second-team selection in 2006, was second on the
team with a .364 batting average. She led the
team in doubles with 15 and tied for the team
lead with 35 RBI. The junior from Decatur also
had 27 runs scored, 59 hits and two home runs.
Glienke earns
second-team honors for the second straight
season after wrapping up a 12-6 season on the
mound. The senior from Houston, Texas, led the
UNA pitching staff with a 1.95 earned run
average. She also racked up a team-high 84
strikeouts in 21 appearances.
Liddy wraps up her
career at UNA with her fourth straight
all-conference selection, becoming the first
player in the history of the program to do so.
After earning three first-team honors, she was
named to the second team after playing in 52
games this season. The Jupiter, Fla., native
hits .316 for the season with 48 hits and 12
doubles. Her 35 RBI and five home runs also lead
the team. |
