FLORENCE
– University of North Alabama head softball
coach Jeremy Reece announced the signing of
four players to the 2008-09 recruiting
class. The group, which signed national
letters of intend during the NCAA early
signing period, features two transfers and
two incoming freshmen.
“This is a very
athletic and versatile group of newcomers,”
said Reece. “They will each have the
opportunity to contribute and provide
immediate help for us.”
Jennifer Sexton
and Kaitlyn King come to UNA from Wallace
State-Hanceville Community College. Sexton
prepped a Sparkman High School before
playing pitcher and first base for the
Lions. King played at Lawrence County High
School and in the infield and outfield at
Wallace.
“Kaitlyn is a
versatile player who can play shortstop as
well as in the outfield,” Reece said. “She
also has good speed and is a threat to steal
bases. Jennifer is a proven winner, winning
a Class 6A championship at Sparkman and a
JUCO state title with Wallace. She is an
excellent pitcher with a ton of experience
that will add to our staff.”
Kathryn Young
and Heather Suddoth will be entering the UNA
program as true freshmen. Suddoth, an
infielder, helped Magnolia Heights School
(Miss.) go 28-4 in 2007 and earn the squad’s
first No. 1 ranking in school history. Young
comes to the Lions from Central High School
in Florence. She helped the Wildcats win an
area championship in 2007.
“Heather is a
great athlete who can play multiple
positions for us,” Reece added. She also has
a great combination of power and speed at
the plate. Kathryn is another person who can
play any position on the field, including
catcher. I think it is important to recruit
locally. She is one of the top recruits in
the area and we are excited to have her.”
