FLORENCE –Kendall Miller’s pinch-hit, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning secured a 9-0 win for the North Alabama softball team over Trevecca Nazarene Wednesday evening at Cox Creek Park. The shot to right field was the first of the season for the sophomore and helped the Lions salvage a split with the Trojans.

Trevecca took the first game 5-3, giving UNA a 15-3 record on the season.

In game one, the Lions left 10 runners on base with no player getting more than one hit in the contest. Megan Niesel suffered her first loss of the season on the mound. She gave up nine hits and struck out three to fall to 5-1 on the year.

After the Trojans scored a run in the top of the first inning, they extended their lead to 4-0 with three in the second. UNA was able to cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second, but would not score again.  Trevecca added an insurance run in the top of the sixth to make the final score 5-3.

Sabrina Roberts pitched a two-hit shutout in game two to remain unbeaten the year at 6-0. The junior from Hartselle struck out two batters with no walks in six innings of work. Her earned run average for the season is 0.80.

Offensively, Lindsey Greene led the way at the plate for the Lions. The junior had three extra-base hits, with a double and two triples to finish 3-for-4 with two RBI for the game.

Jessica Liddy and Lindsey Bates added two hits each as UNA scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to set up Miller’s game-winning homer in the sixth.

The Lions will not return home until April 6th against West Alabama.  Before then, the team will play 20 games, including a four-game schedule in Lakeland, Fla., March 9-10. UNA is set to take on No. 2 Florida Southern in a double-header on the 9th, before facing Saint Leo twice the next day.
