LAKELAND, Fla.,
– The University of North Alabama softball
team had trouble finding its offensive
rhythm Friday during a pair of losses at
12th-ranked Florida Southern. The Lions
managed only a single run during the 4-0,
3-1 sweep, falling to 15-5 on the season.
In the first
game, FSC pitcher Megan Brown (10-3) avenged
her early-season loss to UNA by scattering
four hits and striking out seven to earn the
shutout win. Sarah Whitlow got two of the
team’s four hits with a pair of infield
singles. UNA, however, left seven runners on
base, including a bases-loaded situation in
the top of the fourth inning.
Lion pitcher
Sabrina Roberts (6-1) pitched well, but was
stuck with the loss with no run support. She
gave up six hits and struck out four in six
innings of work before suffering her first
loss of the year.
In the second
game, Florida Southern broke a 1-1 tie with
two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning
to secure the win. The Lions got just three
hits in the game, including a solo home run
by Amy Goebel in the top of the second
inning.
Megan Niesel
took the loss of the mound for the Lions.
She surrendered 11 hits on the day, falling
to 5-2 for the season.
UNA will face
Saint Leo Saturday in another double-header
in Lakeland beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
