LAKELAND, Fla.,
– Runs were again hard to come by for the
North Alabama softball team as the Lions
suffered their second straight sweep
Saturday during a pair of 1-0, 3-0 losses to
Saint Leo.
UNA entered the four-game event on Florida
Southern’s campus in Lakeland, Fla. with a
15-3 record, but left with a 15-7 mark after
scoring one run in 28 innings of play.
In the first game, Saint Leo scored the only
run it would need in the bottom of the first
inning. Hayley Mallory stole home from third
base to provide the eventual winning run.
SLU pitcher Ashley Urbanik got the shutout
victory after scattering four hits and
striking out five in seven innings of work.
For the second straight day, UNA pitcher
Sabrina Roberts (6-2) pitched well, but was
stuck with a loss. After the run in the
first inning, she threw five shutout innings
with five hits and a strikeout.
In the second game, the Lions managed just
four hits off Saint Leo’s Kiki VonHolt.
UNA’s Lindsey Bates went 2-for-3 with a pair
of singles, but the Lions could never cross
home plate.
Stephanie Glienke suffered the loss, falling
to 4-3 on the year. She pitched six innings,
allowing six hits and picking up six
strikeouts.
UNA must now turn its attention to Gulf
South Conference play, which begins next
Saturday. The Lions will travel to
Carrollton, Ga., to face West Georgia in a
