LIVINGSTON, Ala.
, - The University of North Alabama softball team pounded out 25 hits and scored 22 runs during a double-header road sweep at West Alabama Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play. The Lions won the first game 12-8 before taking the second contest 10-1 to improve to 19-7 on the year with a 4-0 GSC record.

As a team, the Lions hit .357 in the two games with six doubles. Lindsey Greene led the way at the plate, going 5-for-7 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI. With the two wins, UNA extends its winning streak over the Tigers to 13 straight games.

In the first game, the Lions scored five runs in the top of the second inning and four in the third to take a 9-0 lead. UWA responded in the bottom of the third with three runs, then cut the lead to 9-5 after a two-run fourth inning.

UNA pushed three more runs across the plate in the fifth inning and held on for the 12-8 victory. Sabrina Roberts allowed eight runs off 13 hits, but got the win to improve to 8-2 on the year. Megan Niesel came in to pitch the final inning and record her second save of the season.

At the plate, Greene went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and three singles. She scored twice and drove in three runs. Lindsey Bates also went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Andrea Palmer also produced two hits.

In the second game, Stephanie Glienke (6-3) pitched six strong innings, scattering five hits and striking out five batters to get the 10-1 win for the Lions.

West Alabama scored its only run of the second game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lions, however, answered with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to end the game via the eight-run mercy rule. Bates and Whitlow each went 2-for-4 to lead UNA in the second game.

The Lions will step outside of conference play next weekend with a pair of double-headers against teams from the GSC West Division in Southaven, Miss. UNA will take on Southern Arkansas Saturday at 4 p.m. and face Delta State the next day at 11 a.m.
