LIONS DOWN SOUTHERN ARKANSAS 11-0, 3-0

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.,
- The University of North Alabama softball team got a pair of strong pitching performances Saturday during a double-header sweep over Southern Arkansas in Southaven, Miss. The Lions improved to 21-7 on the year after downing the Lady Muleriders 11-0 and 3-0.

In the first game, the Lions scored early and often while starting pitcher Sabrina Roberts picked up a four-hit shutout.

Roberts improved to 9-2 on the year after striking out two batters without allowing a walk in seven innings of work. She retired the first 11 batters of the game before surrendering a single in the fourth inning.

Offensively, UNA had 14 hits in the game. Lindsey Greene went 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lions. Jessica Liddy and Maggi Eades also each went 2-for-3, while Kim Lee added a 2-for-4 showing.

The Lions led 4-0 after scoring a run in the top of the first inning and three in the second. Amy Goebel hit her third home run of the season in the second inning with a two-run shot to left field.

After a two-run fourth inning, UNA put the game out of reach by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh.

In the second game, the Lions did not produce the same offensive numbers, but got another dominating pitching performance. Stephanie Glienke threw seven shutout innings, taking a no-hitter the top of the sixth. After allowing a single up the middle, Glienke (7-3) recovered and recorded the shutout. She struck out five batters and walked two on the night.

UNA also had trouble scoring runs until Liddy came through in the bottom of the fifth with a bases-loaded single. The hit scored Goebel, who led off the inning with a single.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions scored two more runs after stringing together four straight hits with two outs. Goebel, who went 2-for-3 in the second game, was the only UNA player with two hits.

UNA will remain in Southaven to face Delta State on Sunday in a double-header beginning at 11 a.m.
