SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS NORTHERN KENTUCKY TO STAY UNBEATEN

FLORENCE – Maggi Eades and Lindsey Greene each went 4-for-8 on the day as the University of North Alabama softball team used a 5-1, 5-4 home sweep over Northern Kentucky to improve to 4-0 on the season.

In the first game, Stephanie Glienke took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before allowing a single. She finished the game with one strikeout in five innings of work and improved to 1-0 on the year.

Offensively, the Lions got 10 hits in the game, including a 2-for-3 showing from Emily Beckwith. UNA scored single runs in the top of the second, third and sixth innings and had a two-run fourth. Eades and Greene each went 2-for-4 with Greene driving in a pair of runs.

The Lions rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the second game, getting the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Eades, a freshman from Birmingham, came through with the bases-loaded game-winning hit through the right side.

After the Norse scored four runs in the top of the third, UNA responded with a single run in the bottom of the inning. Sarah Whitlow got the first of her two RBI with a double to center field. She finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Lions then used a three-run fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4.
Allie Pridmore, who went 2-for-3 in the game, led of the inning with a double as UNA sent nine batters to the plate.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh to set up Eades’ game-winning hit.

Sabrina Roberts improved to 2-0 on the year after scattering seven hits and striking out five batters in seven innings of work.
