BATES LEADS LIONS TO WINS OVER HENDERSON
STATE, OUACHITA BAPTIST
DECATUR
– Lindsey Bates went 6-for-7 on the day to
lead the University of North Alabama
softball team to a pair of victories in the
second day of the Gulf South Conference
Crossover Friday at Decatur’s Wilson Morgan
Park.
The junior from
Decatur also scored twice and drove in a run
as the Lions knocked off Henderson State 5-2
and Ouachita Baptist 7-2 to improve to 29-14
overall with a 10-5 mark in GSC play.
Against the
Lady Reddies, Bates went 2-for-3 at the
plate and scored a run for the Lions. With
the score tied at 1-1, UNA scored twice in
the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings
to take control of the game.
Sabrina Roberts
picked up the victory on the mound after
striking out six batters. She allowed two
runs off six hits without any walks to
improve to 11-6 on the year. Maggie Eades
also had two hits for the Lions.
Bates was a
perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the second
game against OBU.
She doubled in
the first inning and followed with three
straight singles to represent four of the
teams’ 13 hits in the game.
Jessica Liddy
got the scoring started for the Lions in the
first inning with a two-run home run to left
center. Bates followed with her double and
later scored in the inning to give UNA a 3-0
lead.
Ouachita cut
the lead to 3-1 with a run in the top of the
sixth, but the Lions put the game out of
reach with four runs in the bottom of the
inning.
Liddy finished
the game 2-for-4 at the plate with a double,
a homer and three RBI. Eades also had two
more hits to finish the day 4-for-7 at the
plate. Megan Niesel picked up the complete
game victory to improve to 8-3 on the year.
She struck out seven batters and scattered
seven hits for the game.
UNA is
scheduled to take on Christian Brothers and
Southern Arkansas in consecutive games
Saturday beginning at noon.
