FOUR PLAYERS ARE
PRE-SEASON ALL-GSC
FLORENCE - Head softball coaches
in the Gulf South Conference have picked the
University of North Alabama to finish second
in the GSC East Division, according to the
league’s pre-season release. The Lions
received four second-place votes and one
vote for third place to total 19 points in
the 2007 pre-season poll.
The second-place prediction is the highest
ever for the UNA softball program. Coaches
around the conference also voted a
league-high four Lion players on pre-season
All-GSC list. Lindsey Bates, Emily Beckwith,
Lindsey Greene and Jessica Liddy were each
recognized as pre-season all-conference
selections.
For the third straight year,
Alabama-Huntsville is the pre-season pick to
win the East Division. The defending GSC
champions got 23 points, including four
first-place nods and one pick to finish
third.
Right behind UNA is Valdosta State, which
totaled 18 points after getting a
fourth-place vote, two third-place votes and
two votes to win the division. West Florida
(16 points), West Georgia (nine points) and
West Alabama (five points) round out the
predicted order of finish in the East
Division.
Delta State is the overwhelming favorite to
win the West Division. The Lady Statesmen
totaled 34 points with four votes for first
place and two second-place nods.
Arkansas-Monticello got a pair of
first-place votes and is second in the poll
with 28 points. Southern Arkansas is third
with 22 points, while Henderson State and
Ouachita Baptist are tied for fourth with 19
points each. Arkansas Tech (14 points) and
Christian Brothers (11 points) round out the
West Division picks.
