LIONS KNOCK OFF HOST ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO,
DIVISION I ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF
MONTICELLO, Ark.,
–North Alabama was able to string together a
pair of wins to improve to 8-5 Saturday at
the Arkansas-Monticello Super 8 Softball
Classic. The Lions rallied past the host
Cotton Blossoms in the early game before
downing Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff in
the nightcap.
In the first
game, UNA used some late-inning heroics to
rally for the 3-2 win. Trailing 2-1
with two outs in the top of the seventh
inning, Sarah Whitlow connected on a two-RBI
single to provide the go-ahead runs. The hit
scored Kim Lee from third base and Lindsey
Greene from second.
Maggie Eades
went 2-for-3 for the game while Greene also
had two hits and two runs. Megan Niesel
improved to 4-1 with the pitching victory.
The junior pitched all seven innings,
allowing five hits with three strikeouts.
The Lions
produced their highest offensive output of
the season in the second game, getting nine
runs off 10 hits in a 9-1 victory over UAPB.
After scoring a single run in the top of the
first inning, UNA used a three-run third and
a five-run seventh to score the win.
Greene,
Whitlow, Lindsey Bates and Allie Peterson
had two hits each to pace the offensive
attack. Bates added three RBI as the Lions
won back-to-back games for just the third
time this season.
Sabrina Roberts
got the win on the mound after allowing one
run off six hits in the complete-game
effort. The senior improved to 3-1 on the
year.
The Lions will
play the same two teams Sunday in the final
day of the event.
